Rain..Rain..Rain

Posted June 4th, 2007

The Hostel gives much thanks for the rain that we received this week. It rained a full day and two nights here, easing the nearby firefighters and feeding our gardens. The chickens seemed a bit soggy and upset, but otherwise, we all give thanks for the much needed rain. We also give thanks for all those praying for rain, keep up the good work!

We also have received our order of Baby Ducks this past week! We had lost several of our female ducks this year, due to predators, and our duck flock was down to five males and one female. Our order of ten new ducks has come in, and while we’ve already lost one of the ducklings shortly after arrival, we are excited by the cute powers of the other healthy babes.

The coming weekend of the 29th, 30th, and 1st (the fourth of July weekend), we will be having a birthday party here at the Hostel! The Hostel was founded July 4th, 1975, so we will be celebrating our 32nd birthday! We also have another weekend of workshops planned for mid-August, when a group of midwives from the International Center for Traditional Childbearing are coming to the Hostel. They will be leading us in some workshops. Check the ‘Events’ section for more information.

After saying our goodbyes to the four that left last week, Nikki, Jeremy, Mikey, and Joey, the Hostel team has changed greatly. We would like to welcome John Oliversmith and Bo Post to the staff! Both of these wonderful folk are now here to help with the coming summer here at the Hostel, and we welcome them and the energy that they bring to this place. We are also saying goodbye to our dear Flo this week, as she leaves the herd to head back to school. Thank you Flo for all the good times you have given us, and thank you John and Bo for answering the call of the forest!

May The Forest Be With You…
