Lovely Rain

Posted July 2nd, 2007

Yesterday we were once again gifted with rain! The continued showers have helped to keep the fire ban lifted, which allows us to keep doing our sweat lodges. This weekend was the first lodge that we’ve held in months. Everyone gathered early to help clean up the lodge area, which looks amazing. Bo Post lead the lodge, and Mike Joe Jones came down from Asheville to tend the fire. The lodge went very well, and we thank everyone that participated!

Work continues on the new dock at the lake, and it should be done in time for the birthday weekend. The new dock is out floating, and the next step is to attach the decking to it.

The baby ducks are finally starting to quack, and the chickens are growing quickly. Now that they’re all grown, it has become apparent that we have too many chicks. So if anyone out has a good home for them, we’re looking to send a few of our girls out into the world.

The gardens are going strong as well. We’ve been harvesting fresh corn, okra, basil, salad greens, tomatoes, and soybeans. Mike Joe has also been helping the garden team, and mother earth is helping us with the watering a bit.

Ted Dennard also gifted us the supplies to finish our honey extraction. The final count was over 3 gallons of delicious hostel honey! Thanks bees!

And this 4th is the Hostel’s birthday, and next weekend we’ll be celebrating! We’ll be having a ball, barbeque, and be playing all sorts of fun games!

Until next time,

May The Forest Be With You…
