Weekly Update 10-20-2008

Posted October 20th, 2008

Tom Dennard hosted a tea party and viewing of his treehouse for our nightly guests. Tom also rejoined us on Tuesday evening, when he came out and led us in our regularly scheduled sweat lodge, which went over phenomenally well. We had many first-time sweaters, and have much thanks to give to all those that came and participated, as well as all of those who held space and allowed for it to take place.

The week itself held lots of small projects, including lots of love being thrown into the gardens. With the help of Kyla Moore of Atlanta, we have planted turnips, carrots, brussel Sprouts, as well as loads of greens for our winter garden. We continue to harvest the bounty of the gardens, pulling out bell peppers, peas, sweet potatoes, and even oyster mushrooms from our mushroom logs! Joey Brandt, Kenny Cowden, and Mike Joe Jones have joined us for a moment to help with the maintenance of the gardens and grounds.

This past weekend, we held a celebration honoring the life and birthday of Trey Heyworth. The Hostel was filled to the brim with friends and family from all over the country, with joy and laughter abounding. Saturday morning began bright and early with a yoga session in the glasshouse. Some of Trey’s artwork was viewed out at the lake, leading up to the spreading of his ashes. After one of the largest circles of thanks in recent memories, a burn fire was held at the lake, with kind words, drums, and dancing. Our hearts are full of thanks to all that attended, and made this weekend possible.

We’re now in the process of gearing up for the Health and Wellness Retreat planned for next weekend.
