It’s getting hotter in the forest, approaching the dog days of summer even though the local talk says it’s not as hot as usual. Southwood rocked out with us in the kitchen and then departed at the end of the week, along with our staffer Carlyn Flake, who’s headed off to a summer job and then flying to Argentina in the fall.

This week there were a number of guests cooking in the kitchen and on various projects around the Hostel. Thanks to team L&J for helping us out in so many ways, and Steve & Carter for lugging in your tools and throwing down some love on some projects, and Mark & Christopher for some much-needed chainsaw work.

We’ve also been getting some garden love from the skies, with rain coming every other day or so. It continues to flourish, and we just ate our first watermelon from the patch.
