Weekly Update 8-25-2008

Posted August 25th, 2008

The hurricane blew through close to the Hostel over the weekend, and we were hammered by heavy rain and wind. Several trees came down throughout the forest, including the one standing right next to Elmo. Strangely it toppled over during a brief respite from the wind, and fortunately it only took out part of the chicken coop and part of the “hidey-hole” storage shed roof addition. We’ve been out there chainsawing away to collect firewood for winter, and will be doing lots of repair work and raking and sweeping the rest of the detritus for several days. The heavy rains have finally topped off the water table, and the mosquitoes are getting thicker along with the heat and humidity as the storm recedes.

After facing difficult times at the Hostel we are getting back into our unique rhythm, and really appreciate all the great guests who have been coming through and enlivening the forest. In the immortal words of our friend Trey Hayworth: “Embrace lifes, and there is no deaths.

Thank you for your love and support.

May The Forest Be With You…
