Weekly Update 2-17-2009

Posted February 17th, 2009

Sunny days and cool nights have returned to the forest, good bye wool sock, plastic covers in the garden, and sniffles. We’re just 5 weeks away from our last frost date, so that means we’ve started seeding our beloved summer crops; tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, and squash. The garden is thriving with 3 varieties of kale, collards, cabbage, arugala, onions, garlic, and more. We always welcome guests who are interested in learning how garden organically to join us out in our secret garden, let’s turn every green space into a veggie garden! Thank you to everyone who has put their love into garden.

Guests and staff had a chance to mentally, spiritually, and physically detoxify last Monday during our monthly sweat lodge. Rayne, our pacific coast resident wizard, along with other guests helped to make this months sweat another memorable experience for those involved. Thank you Rayne and everyone who helped to make the sweat lodge happen. The next full moon sweat lodge will be March 11th, reservations are being taken.

During a 35 person circle of thanks on valentines day the hostel was surprised with a guest getting down on his knee to propose to his girlfriend (she said yes). Congratulations! Valentines day was full of energy. Wizard Rayne led a “couples fire by friction” workshop that went great, and work exchange Rachel led an evening of wine taste testing. Hopefully guests left the forest knowing how to start fire and properly describe what fabric their wine resembles. Thank you to everyone who graced the hostel their energy this past week.

This upcoming we look forward to another candle making workshop by Chip, cooking workshops, organic gardening, and forest survival skills withwizard Rayne.

Until next time,

May the Forest Be With You
