Weekly Update 04-21-09

Posted April 21st, 2009

Last weekend saw the wedding celebration for Nikki and Jeremy, two former managers who met and fell in love at the hostel. Out of the 40 or so guests we had for the celebration, 13 were former managers, and who knows how many had previously been on staff here.

The next weekend we’ll be hosting another wedding, this one with even more guests, and also a peacock (a wedding gift for the hostel, from the newlyweds).

The weekend following, as I’m sure you all know by now, is our yoga retreat. Spots are quickly filling up, but there’s still a little room left, and I highly encourage you to call us asap to make a reservation.

We’re also finally making the big switch from propane to electric. This includes the power for our stoves and oven, and our hot water heater. Thankfully we won’t have to take part in the treacherous and potentially explodey task that is changing the propane tanks anymore! Thank you Thomas Edison! And yes, explodey is a word – look it up.

Also exploding at the hostel are the mosquitoes, but fear not, we’re in the process of collaborating with bats and will soon reach some conclusions of what we can do for them and what they can do for us. In a less cryptic description, we’re building bat houses and ordering guano to attract them to our neck of woods. Once here, they will feast on the plethora of blood sucking insects that our swampy forest has to offer.

So rejoice! Come to the hostel, immerse yourself in the remnants of love, of spring, of electricity, of sustainability, and of bats that eat mosquitoes!

May the Forest Be With You
