Weekly Update 03/16/2010
Posted March 16th, 2010
This week at the Hostel we have seen even more change that seems oh so appropriate during this spring time of rejuvination and reinvention. We said goodbye to our sisters Cora and Sprout, as well as our brother Chuck; each off to their next chapters and new adventures in life. We said hello to returning staff member Katelyn and some work exchangers from near and far, bringing new ideas and talents to give the forest some lovin’. This week has also been one in impromptu education. Our work exchanger Christopher taught a lesson in primitive fire making, using a bow drill and collected tinder. Later he also lead a fire making kit walk, where participants took a walk in the woods and harvested all the materials needed for a fire kit and then carved the instruments. We also had a guest Miranda lead a few pilates classes and our work exchanger Emily has been leading some yoga sessions. There was also a bicycle maintenance and safe riding class taught by some guests. Our Energy Awarness workshop went great and participants were enthused to learn about engery and holistic therapies. The Hostel is an abundant center of knowledge and skills all around. With each system in place and each task being done, there lies the collective experience and knowledge from every person that has passed through and contributed. Around every corner is an opportunity for observation, dialogue, and hands-on experience, and every person that comes through seems always happy to share.
